Working with Data
- Selecting Data
The first step in editing is to select the data you want to change.
There are several ways to select data. When data has been selected
it will be highlighted.
- Selecting Data using the Point and Drag Method
1. Point to the left of the data you want to select.
2. Press and hold the mouse button.
3. Slide the pointer across the data.
4. Release the mouse button.
- Selecting Data by Clicking
1. Point to the data you want to select.
2. To select one word or section of data, double-click.
3. To select the entire data field, triple-click or press
and hold CTRL and single-click.
- Selecting Data using the Keyboard
1. To move the insertion point to the data you want to select,
use the ARROW keys.
2. To select the data, press SHIFT+RIGHT ARROW.
3. To select the entire data field, press SHIFT+END.
- Selecting Items in a Multiple Selection Box
1. To Select All Items, click the first item in the list,
scroll to the end of the list, press and hold the SHIFT
key and click the last item in the list. Or, click the first item
in the list and press SHIFT + DOWN ARROW.
2. To Select a Range of Items, click the first item in the
range you want, scroll to the last item in the range and press
and hold the SHIFT key and click the last item in the
range.
3. To Select Multiple Non-Adjacent Items, click the first
item in the range you want and press and hold the CTRL
key and click the items you want to include.
- Editing or Replacing Data
After you have selected the data, you can replace it.
- Replacing Data - Type the new data. This will automatically
delete the selected data and insert the new data.
- Deleting Data
You can delete data by selecting it first or one character at a time.
- Deleting Selected Data - After you have selected the
data, press DELETE.
- Deleting Individual Characters
Delete key - Move the pointer to the beginning of the data,
press DELETE. The character to the left of the pointer
will be deleted.
Backspace key - Move the pointer to the end of the data,
press BACKSPACE. The character to the right of the pointer
will be deleted.
