Load the AMA CPT® Codes

With the Load the AMA CPT Codes function you can load the American Medical Association's (AMA) list of CPT codes. This function is designed specifically for the AMA codes ONLY and not for any other supplier. The current AMA CPT Code file is available directly from CompuGroup Medical US. For information about obtaining the Code Set Agreement to purchase the file, contact CGM webPRACTICE Customer Service.

Prior to performing this function, you must either purchase the file from the AMA or from CGM US. If you purchase the file from CGM US, you must complete and return the Code Set Agreement before CGM US can activate the code set on your system. If your practice uses multiple databases, you must perform this function within each database.

NOTE: This function automatically selects the Bill to Insurance check box for every code loaded and leaves the Normal Price field blank in the Procedure Code Table.

Upon accessing this function, an informational screen displays. Read the screen and click Proceed. After that, the instructions differ slightly whether you have:
 


Purchased the CPT Code Set from CGM US

After you click Proceed select the file you want to load.

Year Select the year of the code set that you want to load. This field defaults to the current year. 4
Descriptions Select the option to load either the short description of the codes or the medium description of the codes. 26


The Drive and File Name fields are informational only and reflect the information that was entered by CGM when the file was activated. Indicate the codes you want to load.

Pathology & Lab If you want to load all of the Pathology and Lab codes, select this check box. If you select this check box, the Accept Assignment check box in the Procedure Code Table will automatically be selected for these codes. 1

Overwrite Codes If you want to overwrite the existing procedure code descriptions with the AMA descriptions, select this check box.

NOTE: You should not select to overwrite the existing procedure code descriptions with those provided in the file unless you are loading your Procedure Code Table for the first time. This function loads only the first twenty characters of the brief description as provided by the AMA, which is usually less descriptive than any description you may have previously entered.		 1


NOTE: If you select the Surgery CPT Codes, you need to specify which category of surgery codes you want loaded into the Procedure Code Table.

Click Proceed.



Purchased the CPT Code Set from the American Medical Association

After you click Proceed on the informational screen, click Load from File in the Action Column.


Complete the Drive and File Name fields to identify the AMA file, and indicate which codes you want to load.
